Travel - Travel Agents and Destinations

Travel and Tourism Administration, United States, former agency of the United States Department of Commerce that promoted tourism to the United States by residents of foreign countries. The agency was established in 1961 as the United States Travel Service and renamed in 1981. In 1996 the United States Congress voted to eliminate the agency.
The United States Travel and Tourism Administration comprised several international offices and a research department. It conducted programs abroad to encourage foreign travel agents and tour operators to promote tourism to U.S. destinations. The agency also worked with domestic and foreign government officials to reduce barriers to international travel.

Travelers Aid Association of America, intercity association of private, nonprofit, social service organizations that provide counseling and emergency aid to travelers in difficulty. Founded in 1917, with headquarters now in Arlington Heights, Illinois, it operates a network of assistance centers throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Located primarily in airports, bus depots, and railroad stations, and staffed by professional caseworkers and trained volunteers, the agencies offer, free of charge, a wide range of services, from simple directions to financial assistance and complete reorientation services. The work of the local agency is often financed by the Community Chest or United Fund.
